Your file never leaves your device. Processed locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

How to unlock a PDF

1. Drop the PDF. If it is locked, the page says so. 2. Type the password that already opens it. 3. Press “Unlock PDF” and download the copy that opens without asking.

Only a password you know

GustKit decrypts the file with the password you type. It does not guess, bypass or recover a forgotten password. If the PDF has no password, you will get a short message instead of a new file.

How to remove a password you already know

1. Drop the PDF. If it asks for a password, the note on the page appears. 2. Type the password that opens it. 3. Download the unlocked file and confirm it opens with no prompt. 4. Delete the locked copy only after that check.

This removes the open-password so you can merge, compress or sign the file in the other tools. It does not guess passwords and it does not unlock a file you are not allowed to open. A PDF that was never encrypted shows an error instead of a fake success.

Frequently asked questions

I forgot the password. Can you remove it?

No. Without the password the pages stay encrypted. GustKit does not offer password recovery.

Is the password sent to a server?

No. It is used in this tab to decrypt the file and is not stored.

The file opens without a password. What happens?

Nothing is changed. The tool tells you the PDF is not locked.

The password is correct in Preview but fails here.

Type it again without extra spaces. Some files use a permissions password that is not the open password. GustKit removes the password that actually opens the document.

Is the password sent anywhere?

No. It is used in this tab to decrypt the bytes, then forgotten when you leave.
