Resize a video without uploading it

Pick 480p, 720p, 1080p or type a width. The picture is scaled in this browser with FFmpeg and saved as MP4. The file never leaves this tab.

Your file never leaves your device. Processed locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Re-encoding runs on your device's CPU in a single thread: expect roughly real time or slower (a 1-minute clip can take a minute or more).

How to resize a video

1. Drop the video and wait until the length shows. 2. Leave 720p, or pick 480p, 1080p or Custom and type a width. 3. Leave “Keep aspect ratio” and “Never enlarge” on unless you want a stretch or an upscale. 4. Press “Resize video” and download the MP4.

A new encode, not a crop

GustKit scales the whole frame. It does not cut the edges: that is Crop video. Sound is kept and re-encoded to AAC so the MP4 plays in more places. A very long clip is refused, because one browser thread would take too long.

Small files and tall phone video

“Never enlarge” leaves a 480p clip alone when you pick 1080p. Turn it off only when you really want a bigger frame. Phone video that was shot upright stays upright. The first visit downloads FFmpeg; later visits use the browser cache.

Frequently asked questions

Will 720p make a sideways video 1280 pixels wide?

The longer side is limited to 1280 pixels for 720p, 854 for 480p and 1920 for 1080p. A portrait clip gets the limit on its height.

Does the sound stay?

Yes, when the file has a soundtrack. A silent video stays silent.

Why is it slower than trimming?

Resize re-encodes the picture. Trim can copy the streams. Leave the tab open until the download appears.

Is the video uploaded?

No. FFmpeg runs in this tab.
